Ecommerce giant Amazon is investing 15 billion euros in the French market over a three-year period. The company will use the money to build, among other things, four new distribution centers. Investments in existing and new infrastructure are expected to result in faster delivery times for customers and selling partners across France.

This year, Amazon is opening distribution centers in Illiers-Combray, Beauvais and Colombier-Saugnieu, followed by another one in Ensisheim next year. The growth investments for the 2026–2028 period will also be used to improve the existing network. “This means faster deliveries, wider selection, and low prices accessible everywhere in France – all with a reduced environmental footprint through a proximity-based logistics network”, says Jean-Baptiste Thomas, Amazon’s Country Manager in France.

Seven thousand jobs

According to Amazon, the investments will create more than seven thousand permanent jobs, primarily warehouse positions. The company says it has been France’s leading net direct job creator since 2010, with more than 25,000 permanent employees and support for over 100,000 total jobs. Tens of thousands of French SMEs are active on Amazon.fr and its European sister sites.

‘Amazon is France’s leading net direct job creator’

Amazon launched in France in August 2000. It has since grown into by far the country’s largest online store, although the company does not disclose specific revenue figures for France, unlike Germany and the United Kingdom.

Next growth phase

Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than 30 billion euros in France across logistics infrastructure, technology and operations. That amounts to roughly 2 billion euros per year, while the company is now investing an average of 5 billion euros annually in the market.

“This is our most significant commitment to France in over 25 years and tangible proof of our confidence in the country’s economic and technological future”, says country manager Thomas. Part of the investment will go toward the development of Amazon’s cloud and AI capabilities in France.

Amazon investments in Europe

Amazon regularly announces capital injections into European markets. The company is investing over 1 billion euros in Belgium and more than 1.4 billion euros in the Netherlands over a three-year period, countries where it competes with Bol. Amazon is also investing heavily in Poland: through 2028, the company will invest 5 billion euros in its battle with local market leader Allegro.
