After launching in the United States and the United Kingdom, TikTok Shop now aims to enable the trade of second-hand products on its platform elsewhere in Europe. The company is currently recruiting a program manager who will be responsible for defining and implementing the pre-owned category strategy across the European Union.

The listing for a program manager was recently posted on TikTok Shop’s website. The program manager will lead development of the vision and support the strategy for sellers in the pre-owned category “from trading cards to household appliances” across the EU, according to the job posting. The manager will also focus on governance frameworks, policies, and support operations.

Preowned Luxury

The category manager will be based in London. TikTok Shop launched Preowned Luxury in the United Kingdom in spring of last year, enabling preloved fashion brands to reach a new audience and shoppers to buy authentic luxury fashion without having to leave TikTok. It was introduced in partnership with Luxe Collective, Sellier Knightsbridge, Sign of the Times, Hardly Ever Worn It, and Break Archive. The launch positioned TikTok Shop as a competitor to eBay UK, which removed seller fees on pre-owned clothes.

Product categories

Earlier, TikTok introduced Preowned Luxury in the United States. In October, the second-hand offering there was expanded to include refurbished electronics, which are also available on the platform in the United Kingdom. Sellers are required to have certificates from third-party authenticators.

Although returns are generally not accepted, TikTok Shop does have an anti-counterfeit policy that guarantees a full refund if a seller is proven to have sold a counterfeit product. The new job listing suggests that TikTok Shop intends to open up many more categories to second-hand product sellers in Europe.

The program manager’s responsibilities will also include scaling and improving support for the new category, advocating for sellers (“understand the seller journey and pain points, and help them to solve the problems they experience”), and leading the strategic category portfolio.

TikTok Shop in Europe

Since six weeks ago, TikTok Shop has been officially available in Germany, France, and Italy. The shopping feature was already live in the United Kingdom, Spain, and Ireland. The number of European countries now stands at six, including the five largest ecommerce markets in Europe. An expansion to other countries on the continent is expected.
