Last week, Ceconomy shared its strategy for MediaMarkt and Saturn (also called MediaMarktSaturn) for the coming years. Collectively, the marketplaces achieved a GMV of 800 million euros during the financial year 2025 to 2026. According to the strategy, the GMV will more than double by the financial year 2028 to 2029.

In February, we reported that JD.com was said to be in talks with Ceconomy, the owner of MediaMarktSaturn, about an acquisition. The sale has been approved by the German government, but now still needs to be approved by the EU Commission.

Minimal revenue increase expected by 2029

MediaMarktSaturn has recently published its financial results for the financial year 25/26, and its strategy of the next three years. In total, the companies generated a revenue of 23.2 billion euros in the financial year 25/26. The company expects to lose some of its market share, due to increase competition with Amazon and Temu. Because of that, it is expecting a minimal increase in revenue by 28/29. It wants to reach total revenue of around 24 billion euros.

The total revenue was 23.2 billion euros in 25/26 and is expected to reach around 24 billion euros by 2029

Its EBIT margin was 2.2 percent in 25/26, meaning that it reached 500 million euros. The company is targeting a small increase, to 3.3 percent by 28/29. This comes down to 800 million euros.

No ecommerce targets

It is striking that the strategy presentation lacks any concrete targets for MediaMarktSaturn’s online sales channels. In the past years, the presentation did always include ecommerce targets. It is unclear what it expects to generate in online sales by 2029.

Focus on online marketplace

However, the company have shared targets for its online marketplace. It is expected to grow its marketplace GMV from 800 million euros (in 25/26) to 1.9 billion euros by 28/29. The company’s GMV would more than double in the coming years.

MediaMarkt and Saturn will launch their marketplace in Hungary this year

MediaMarktSaturn has also shared several steps that will help in achieving this growth. The marketplace will launch in Hungary, by September this year. Additionally, it wants to increase its marketplace assortment, by adding more sellers, SKUs and new categories. These include pet care, mobility, energy, health & sports and baby & kids.
