Ecommerce giant Amazon is lowering its package fees for several product groups in its Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) program. Fees for items in these categories will be based on package size and unit weight.
It is not the first time that Amazon changes its fees. In 2023, it already raised its fulfillment prices. Last month, Amazon already made another change in fees for German consumers. To incentivize box-free returns, customers who return a product in a box must now pay a fee. But the pricing restructuring does not stop there.
Changes apply to clothing, accessories and bags
Amazon now announces that it will reduce FBA package fees for online sellers. It applies to a large portion of products in the clothing, accessories, backpacks and handbags categories. The online marketplace has not yet announced how much sellers will save on these products, nor has it announced which products will and will not be selected for this change.
‘Fees for items in these categories will be based on the package size category and unit weight’
Shipping and packaging fees will now be calculated with a different method, Amazon says. “Starting May 15, 2025, we will calculate Fulfilment by Amazon fees for items in these categories based solely on the package size category and unit weight (instead of the higher price of unit weight and volume weight)”, it said in an official statement.
Return processing fees waived or refunded
For the selected categories, Amazon is introducing seven package size categories, which will replace the previous 16 size categories. Additionally, products with a high return rate will be exempt from the previously introduced return processing fee. This applies to backpacks and handbags. Return processing fees that were charged for products in these categories since February 1st will now be waived or refunded.’
It seems that this change in fees will apply in all European markets of Amazon. They also apply to the Fulfilment Network in Europe, remote fulfillment between the UK and the EU and the ‘shipped without additional Amazon packaging’ program in Spain, Germany, France, Italy and the UK.
