This week, eBay announced that it is launching eBay SpeedPAK in Germany. The service offers sellers a customs-cleared shipping, with import duties already paid. It makes international shipping easier for German sellers.

eBay is a popular online marketplace from the United States, which is also active in Europe. In 2024, the company regained its growth trajectory in Germany after two years of decline. Its revenue increased with 1 million dollars to 972 million dollars.

The marketplace implemented several policy changes in the same year, like improvements for commerce sellers and the new Top-Service label. The label allows sellers to stand out on the platform, giving shoppers insights into aspects of the service level of the seller, like timely shipping.

Simplified customs for sellers

Now, the company is implementing another improvement for German sellers, especially for those that are selling cross-border. eBay SpeedPAK is a collaboration with Orange Connex, a logistics provider. It handles all customs documentation, which reduces administrative effort. With the recent changes to European customs, this is a welcome change to many sellers.

‘This is an important step in making international selling easier for our merchants’

“The introduction of eBay SpeedPAK in Germany is an important step in making it easier for our sellers to access global markets,” says Andreas Häntsch, Senior Director of Seller Engagement at eBay Germany. “We know that international shipping can be complex. With eBay SpeedPAK, we offer a solution that not only provides competitive prices and simplified processes, but also strengthens the trust of both buyers and sellers.”

More protection to build trust

Consumers will get a more transparent view of total prices, and a delivery without hidden fees. This is because all costs, including shipping, customs duties and taxes are included at checkout.

Sellers get more protection, while consumers get more transparency

At the same time, sellers get more protection: “item not received” cases are no longer counted in service metrics, defects due to non-receipt are removed, late shipments are not counted as such and negative or neutral feedback related to shipping is automatically removed.

Service now available

Sellers can select the service as a shipping option while listing their products and buy the corresponding shipping labels through the eBay platform. If sellers sign up before the end of March, they can take advantage of a 10 percent discount on SpeedPAK labels.
