Galaxus, Switzerland’s largest ecommerce company, saw its platform sales increase 18 percent last year, reaching 3.4 billion euros. Growth was particularly strong outside its home market, with further European expansion on the agenda.

This was announced by Galaxus in a report on its performance over the past year. The company attributes the growth in part to the expansion of its product portfolio. Currently, its platforms, Galaxus and Digitec, offer eight million different products — a nearly 25 percent increase compared to a year ago. The growth is largely driven by an influx of new marketplace partners, both domestic and international.

International growth

International expansion is also a key growth driver. In 2024, 4.5 million people placed orders with Galaxus, including 1.2 million from Germany, Austria, Italy, and other EU countries. Sales in these international markets grew by 27 percent to a total of 362 million euros. As a result, the company now generates nearly 11 percent of its revenue from shoppers outside Switzerland.

Galaxus’ cross-border share stands at almost 11%.

Galaxus saw particularly high demand for mobile phones, notebooks, and PC components in its international markets last year.

Logistics center

Galaxus is building a new logistics center in Neuenburg am Rhein, southern Germany, where 1,000 people are expected to work to serve both Swiss and international customers. “Like the company’s existing logistics center in Krefeld (also in Germany), the new warehouse is ideally situated to serve growing European markets such as Germany and France.”

Over the next few years, Galaxus’ parent company, Migros Group, “will be targeting substantial further investment in its online business in the European market”, according to the press release.

Ecommerce in Switzerland

According to the Research Center for Retail Management at the University of St. Gallen, Galaxus was Switzerland’s second-largest online retailer by size, behind Amazon, in 2024. Its sister platform, Digitec, ranks fifth in the recently published ranking. Combined, they surpass Amazon and lead ecommerce in Switzerland. Temu and Shein have entered the national top 10 for the first time.

In another study by Carpathia, published six months ago, Galaxus and Digitec were also ranked as Switzerland’s largest B2C ecommerce player when combined, second only to Zalando at the time.
