Compared to September 2024, online sales in Switzerland have shown a cumulative increase of 9 percent up to and including the third quarter of this year. And over the first half of the year, ecommerce increased 8 percent. That is a much stronger growth than over the course of 2024.
These data come from the newest Nielsen Market Monitor, which tracks the current state of online retail in Switzerland. In 2024, Swiss consumers spent 15.9 billion euros online. This was an increase of 3.5 percent. However, corrected for inflation, the real volume growth was 2.4 percent.
Categories with growth over 10%
According to the latest data, online retail has grown 9 percent cumulatively by the end of September 2025, compared to a year earlier. The Hobby/Toys/Leisure segment, as well as Home & Living and Sports/Sports Equipment have growth rates of more than 10 percent. “After nine months, online sales are projected to see their strongest growth since 2021, in 2025”, says Carpathia, an ecommerce management consultancy in Switzerland.

Fashion segment decreased again
At the same time, the Fashion segment has declined 7.4 percent. This is unusual, as fashion is normally the fastest growing segment. This decline was also visible in the Swiss fashion market last year, when it decreased 7 percent compared to 2023.
‘Fashion is expected to grow, when international sellers are taken into account’
However, this latest research does not include Zalando, About You, Temu and Shein, as they are not local players. The researchers expect that the online fashion market is actually growing in Switzerland, when these international sellers are taken into account.
